Punjab and Three Other States Gear Up for Border Security Mock Drill on May 29

Punjab, India – May 28, 2025: In a bid to bolster national preparedness and enhance coordination among security and emergency response agencies, a large-scale mock drill is set to be conducted on May 29 across four Indian states bordering PakistanPunjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Jammu & Kashmir.

The drill is being organized under the guidance of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with respective State Disaster Response Forces (SDRFs), police, health departments, and paramilitary agencies including the Border Security Force (BSF). It aims to evaluate the efficiency of the current emergency response systems and the readiness of authorities in dealing with border-related threats.

Objective of the Drill

This mock drill will simulate multiple emergency scenarios, including:

  • Cross-border infiltration attempts

  • Chemical or biological attack preparedness

  • Evacuation and casualty response

  • Coordination of civil and defense infrastructure

The purpose is to ensure that all stakeholders are trained, equipped, and capable of rapid response in case of real-world emergencies along the sensitive India-Pakistan border.

What to Expect on May 29

Citizens residing in the border districts of Punjab, including Ferozepur, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot, may witness heightened activity such as:

  • Ambulances, fire trucks, and police vehicles moving swiftly

  • Simulated explosions and smoke plumes

  • Mock injuries and rescue operations

  • Field medical units and rapid deployment of forces

Authorities have urged the public not to panic, assuring them that these activities are part of a controlled exercise meant to test response efficiency and ensure public safety in future scenarios.

Coordination Among Agencies

The mock drill will see inter-agency collaboration involving:

  • NDMA

  • State and District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs)

  • Indian Army and BSF

  • Local police and emergency medical teams

  • Fire and civil defense departments

Special communication protocols and response timelines will be analyzed to identify gaps and implement improvements in India’s border security framework.

Importance of the Exercise

Speaking on the importance of such initiatives, an NDMA spokesperson said,
“This drill is part of our ongoing effort to ensure every district near the border is well-prepared for any emergency situation. Our goal is to build a seamless disaster response system that protects citizens and infrastructure.”

Experts highlight that such drills are not just security-focused but also test public health responses, infrastructure resilience, and information flow in times of crisis.

Final Words

With border security and disaster preparedness becoming increasingly crucial in today’s geopolitical landscape, exercises like the one scheduled on May 29 serve as critical tools to evaluate India’s capacity to handle emergencies. Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with local authorities and view the drill as a step toward greater national safety and preparedness.
